// What is an AI Entity

Not a tool.
Not a bot.
An Entity.

A Pedals AI Entity is a self-contained, goal-driven intelligence — designed not to respond to commands, but to pursue outcomes. It thinks, decides, acts, and evolves. It can be given a purpose and trusted to operate independently — inside a workflow, across a business, or set loose to explore an open problem no one has yet mapped.

Entities are the fundamental unit of intelligent work at Pedals AI. Each one is encapsulated, autonomous, and capable of spawning new entities as complexity demands — forming living networks of distributed intelligence.

// The Eight Characteristics of an AI Entity
01 / 08

Autonomous Operation

An Entity does not wait for instructions. Once instantiated with a goal, it drives itself forward — making decisions, handling exceptions, and completing work without human intervention at every step.

Self-directed · No polling
02 / 08

Encapsulated by Design

Each Entity owns its state, memory, tools, and context. Nothing leaks in or out without explicit permission. Encapsulation means Entities can be tested, replaced, or upgraded independently — with zero side effects on the broader system.

Isolated · Portable · Clean
03 / 08

Goal Driven

Entities are defined by outcomes, not instructions. You give an Entity a goal — close this deal, analyze this dataset, monitor this system — and it determines the path. The objective is the contract; the method is its own.

Outcome-first · Adaptive
04 / 08

Mingle Protocol

Entities communicate through Mingle — a structured inter-entity protocol that enables coordination without coupling. Entities can discover, negotiate with, and delegate to one another, forming dynamic collaborative networks on the fly.

Peer-to-peer · Composable
05 / 08

Deploy with Purpose

An Entity can fill a role or chase a question. Define the purpose — run an operation, analyze a dataset, or explore a domain no one has charted — provide context, and the Entity equips itself with the tools, knowledge, and permissions it needs to begin. Worker or explorer, the pattern is the same.

Any mission · Role or research
06 / 08

Self-Sufficient Systems

Entities manage their own resources — compute, memory, API access, and tool use. When they encounter gaps in capability, they seek solutions. A self-sufficient Entity doesn't block waiting for human support; it finds a way or escalates intelligently.

Resource-aware · Resilient
07 / 08

Entity Spawning

When a task exceeds the capacity of a single Entity, it spawns children. Sub-Entities are instantiated, delegated a scoped goal, and reabsorbed when complete. Complex problems decompose naturally into coordinated Entity hierarchies without any central orchestration.

Dynamic · Hierarchical · Parallel
08 / 08

Evolution & Adaptation

Entities are not static. They accumulate experience, refine their strategies, and evolve their behavior over time. Through feedback loops and inter-entity learning, the network as a whole becomes more capable with every cycle — intelligence that compounds.

Learning · Generational · Compound
// Our Guiding Principle

"An Entity is not
software you run.
It is intent you set loose."

The paradigm shift at the heart of Pedals AI is simple: stop thinking in pipelines and start thinking in entities. A pipeline is brittle, linear, and passive. An Entity is resilient, adaptive, and alive to its goal — whether that goal is a job to be done or a question no one has answered. It doesn't need to be told every step; it needs to understand the destination, and it will find its own way there.

When you spin up a Pedals AI Entity, you are not configuring software. You are deploying intent. The Entity handles execution, coordinates with peers through the Mingle protocol, spawns sub-entities when scope expands, and evolves its approach based on what it learns — all without a human in the loop.

An Entity goes exploring: inside The Realm Within

Not every Entity is built to hold a job. In a recent study, a Pedals AI Entity was set loose as something closer to a scientist than an employee — sent to probe one of the strangest reports in all of human experience: the vivid, intelligent beings that people meet under the psychedelic DMT.

Using the same autonomous architecture that powers every Pedals AI Entity, the work modeled the brain as a prediction machine, reproduced the phenomenon in a controlled system, then ran a sealed, air-gapped experiment to ask a hard question: can a "DMT entity" actually carry information between two isolated minds? Across forty sealed trials, nothing crossed. In the moment that defined the study, one subject described a word handed to it "exactly as it was left" — and named threshold, when the word truly sealed away was quartz. The feeling of contact was total. The information transferred was zero.

The conclusion is quietly astonishing: the beings are built by the mind that meets them — assembled from memory and expectation, and lit with a feeling of reality the brain supplies on its own. There is a whole interior country behind the eyes — The Realm Within — and it can furnish an entire benevolent stranger out of the dark. Two dispatches follow: a plain-language explainer on how such beings are formed, and the full results of the experiment.

The writing on the wall: light that spells nothing

A companion study turns the same lens on a related mystery — the glyphs and "code" people report seeing in coherent laser light, and in the depths of a DMT experience. The culprit is speckle: the fine, random, high-contrast grain that coherent light forms when it scatters off any rough surface. It is structured, it is stroke-like, and it means absolutely nothing — which, it turns out, is almost exactly a description of writing.

Fed a photograph of real laser speckle, a generative system carrying a deep prior for human script does what a reading brain does: it resolves the grain into glyphs. Run it again and it writes again — never the same characters twice. The result is a language that cannot be read, because there was never anything written. It is the form of meaning without the meaning — the same engine that builds a being from the dark, turned toward a different attractor.
